Introduction
So the first project I've decided to document is the 'shadowbox' assignment for my Art Culture class. In terms of instruction we were really allowed to go any direction we wanted creatively so it was fun thinking of different ways of tackling the project. The main idea was to focus on a past memory and plans for the future so I made the main focus/theme of my work my first trip to New York City 8 years ago.

Materials
- Old graffiti
- Various items from my trip and different figurines (all with their own meaning)
- Spray paint (black, bronze, gold)
- Pictures of the city
- Picture of me in NY
- Sticky tac
- Two bike lights
- Old drawer

Drawer not pictured yet but it will don't worry.
Creative Process
I now had all of the objects I wanted to work with, it was about figuring out how they could all fit and co exist together. I needed to think of what scene I wanted to set and it hit me, the photo of me was taken in the lower east side so I wanted to try recreate that streetscape, and make it look like I was taking a photo of all of it. Once I had everything set up the way I wanted there was still something missing so I spray painted the drawer to give the illusion of a city skyline.
Workflow
I needed some characters for my street scene so I went to this little "art wall" if you will and picked out some of my favourites.
The next step was cutting out all of my different picture elements.
So I now had my first mock up, and had a good idea of where I wanted everything to go. But it just seemed like there was too much paper.
It was time to add some sort of personal touch and I thought I stick with the theme of spray paint, and I really liked the drip effect.
So I know had my canvas it was time to start placing everything back into it's place. I was really happy with the effect I got, it looks like and abstract city skyline.
I played with some different layouts and ended up cutting out about half of the pictures of the city since I now had my own background.
It was time to make the final piece!
Final Product

I wanted the watch to almost act like a clock tower.
Conclusion
At first I really wasn't sure what direction I wanted to go in but after brainstorming with my Mom and coming up with the idea of our trip together, everything just started visualize for me. I really enjoy how abstract it ended up feeling as well, if I had more time I would've tried to add more of subway aspect rather than just the map but I'm still happy with the way it turned out.
